= Neighborhood Councils = Great Falls is divided into nine neighborhood council districts. Each council has five elected positions. They are the ground floor of city participation: elected in the municipal election alongside the CityCommission, subject to the OpenMeetingLaw, posting agendas and minutes in the City's Agenda Center like any other body. Councils meet monthly. Between them they generate more agenda rows a year than any other body in the City's Agenda Center — sixty-odd meeting dates in 2026 alone. Robert Moccasin is the City's Neighborhood Councils Liaison. He also sits on the EmsAdvisoryBoard as the neighborhood councils representative. = What they do = Every regular Commission meeting has a standing neighborhood councils item near the top of the agenda, at which a council representative reports. The report from Neighborhood Council 1 at CityCommission2026-06-16 is typical: a summary of the council's own meeting, presentations on the CouncilOfCouncils meeting, local crime statistics, transportation infrastructure, the Adopt-A-Park programme and the new parks director, and residents' concerns about fireworks enforcement and electric motorcycles ridden by unlicensed youth on streets and in parks. Appointments to fill council vacancies are made by the City Commission — see CityCommission2025-11-18. The City publishes a Neighborhood Council Handbook, an FAQ, an interactive council map, and quorum notices. See QuorumNotices. = Elections = Council seats are on the municipal ballot. In 2025 the number of candidates equalled or was fewer than the seats in eight of the nine districts, which allowed the CityCommission to cancel those races — see MunicipalElections2025. ---- Neighborhood Councils: https://greatfallsmt.gov/179/Neighborhood-Councils Our councils: https://greatfallsmt.gov/277/Our-Councils Handbook: https://greatfallsmt.gov/278/Handbook CouncilOfCouncils · CityCommission · Categories
