Street Maintenance District

The citywide district that funds street maintenance from an annual assessment on property, levied by resolution of the CityCommission each August after a public hearing.

Both hearings were set a month ahead on the consent agenda, alongside the other assessment districts. See AnnualTaxLevy.

What it pays for

Street maintenance, sweeping, sanding, snow and ice control, pothole and surface repair, run by PublicWorksDepartment. Larger reconstructions are usually funded separately, from capital, grants or CommunityDevelopmentBlockGrant money, and come to the Commission as individual construction contracts — 4th Avenue North, 7th Avenue NW, Carter Park, 8th Avenue NW and East Fiesta Street all appear in the 2025-2026 record.

The condition of the network is measured by the Overall Condition Index. Public Works presented an OCI assessment review to the Commission at WorkSession2025-04-15.

A separate General Boulevard District No. 3570 and the special improvement lighting districts are assessed on the same August agenda.
