The vocabulary you need to read a Great Falls agenda packet.
- ACFR — Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. The City's audited annual financial statements, presented to the Commission each January or thereabouts. See CityBudget
- BID — Business Improvement District, a self-assessing downtown district. See BusinessImprovementDistrict
- CDBG — Community Development Block Grant, federal money passed through the City. See CommunityDevelopmentBlockGrant
- COS — Certificate of Survey. Land is often described in resolutions as "Tract 1 of COS 3779"
- CUP — Conditional Use Permit. A use allowed in a zoning district only with specific Commission approval, granted by resolution
- FLUM — Future Land Use Map, the map component of the growth policy. See FutureGreatFalls2045
- GFFR — Great Falls Fire Rescue. See FireRescue
- GFPD — Great Falls Police Department. See PoliceDepartment
- GFPS — Great Falls Public Schools. See GfpsBoardOfTrustees
- INTERCAP — the Montana Board of Investments loan programme local governments borrow from for capital work
- MAFB — Malmstrom Air Force Base. See MalmstromAirForceBase
- MCA — Montana Code Annotated, the state statutes
- MDT — Montana Department of Transportation
- MLUPA — Montana Land Use Planning Act. See MontanaLandUsePlanningAct
- MPO — Metropolitan Planning Organization, the regional transportation planning body. See MetropolitanPlanningOrganization
- OCCGF — Official Code of the City of Great Falls, the municipal code. See OfficialCode
- OCI — Overall Condition Index, the street pavement rating the Public Works department reports on
- OF — Office File number. Many capital project items carry one, printed in the agenda item title as "OF 1862.0"
- PUD — Planned Unit Development, a negotiated zoning classification assigned by ordinance
- SCIR — Strategic Capital Investment Reserve. See StrategicCapitalInvestmentReserve
- SID — Special Improvement District, a district that assesses property owners for a specific improvement
- SIC — Safety Inspection Certificate, the fire code inspection programme
- SRF — State Revolving Fund, the state loan programme for water and sewer work
- TBID — Tourism Business Improvement District. See TourismBusinessImprovementDistrict
- TIF — Tax Increment Financing. See TaxIncrementFinancing
Ordinances change the OfficialCode and take two readings and a public hearing. Resolutions are one-off acts — a fee schedule, a levy, a permit, a lease — and take one. Both are numbered in unbroken sequences; the City posts them by year.
