Departments and divisions
The operating departments of the City of Great Falls. All report through the CityManager.
- FinanceDepartment — accounting, budget, tax and assessments, utility billing
- PublicWorksDepartment — streets, water, sewer, storm drainage, sanitation, engineering
- PoliceDepartment — Great Falls Police Department
- FireRescue — Great Falls Fire Rescue, four stations plus the FireTrainingCenter
- ParkAndRecreationDepartment — parks, pools, golf, recreation programmes
- PlanningAndCommunityDevelopment — planning, zoning, building, grants, transportation planning
- MunicipalCourt — two departments, judges appointed and elected
- CityAttorney — the legal department
- HumanResourcesDepartment — recruitment, benefits, risk management, labor relations
- GisServices — computer mapping and addressing
- CityClerk — records, minutes, codification, City-190
- GreatFallsPublicLibrary — governed with the LibraryBoard
- MansfieldCenter — theatre, convention centre and meeting rooms in the CivicCenter
- AnimalShelter — adoption, animal control, licensing
- ParkingDivision — meters, permits, enforcement, structures
- EmergencyManagement — preparedness and warning systems
The City employs over 500 full and part time people and another 300 or so seasonal staff in summer.
Where the money goes
Department budgets are presented to the CityCommission in special work sessions each spring — see SpecialWorkSession2026-04-20 — and adopted in the annual budget resolution in August. See CityBudget.
